In 1973, the Reynolds Buick & GMC dealership bought the franchise rights from General Motors, authorizing them to sell and service their newly developed GMC Motorhomes.

These motorhomes had great success with the public and the dealership did a lot of business, but they had only one problem - no one knew how to properly fix them. One needed to be, not only familiar with their new mechanical aspects, but also be a competent plumber and electrician, and for most narrowly trained technicians this was a daunting task.

Dennis Richardson, who was working for the dealership as a heavy duty mechanic, immediately took a liking to the newly arriving motorhomes. He liked the challenge and decided to apply for the position and, since nobody really wanted the job, the company was happy to give Dennis the assignment.

Learning as he went along, Dennis slowly but surely mastered every system of this wonderfully complex and fun piece of machinery. It wasn't long till Dennis became the dealership's #1 GMC Motorhome expert. He was quickly promoted to Service Manager, and for the next couple of years run a small crew of mechanics, each of whom he personally trained in the "fine art" of motorhome maintanance.

General Motors has stopped production of GMC Motorhomes in 1978, and for the next three years supplied the franchised dealerships with the remaining surplus of motorhomes, parts and accessories. In 1981, when the factory surplus ran out, Renolds Buick & GMC, decided to close the motorhome branch of their operations.

Dennis was in sales at the time, and since he found it much more exciting selling motorhomes than servicing automobiles and trucks, he really didn't want to go back to being a mechanic. So he decided to venture out and look for a sales position elsewhere. The problem was that his previous GMC customers and other GMC owners still needed someone to repair their rigs. And since Renolds Buick & GMC were no longer servicing the motorhomes, they referred all the GMC customers to Dennis Richardson.

Having so recently transitioned into a comfortable sales career, Dennis was reluctant to “get dirty” again. But he could not refuse his old friends, and like a good physician, Dennis rented a service truck and started making house calls. He went right to people's homes, performing repairs, specialised maintanance tasks and whatever else was necessary to make GMC owners happy and to get their rigs back on the road. He even installed engines and transmissions right on the spot!

Word got around and, before he knew, Dennis was swamped with work. Unexpectedly, this turned out to be a fun time for Dennis since many of his Los Angeles customers were celebrities. Sammy Davis Jr., Sheryl Jones, James Garner, Lindsy Wagner "The Bionic Woman", Bo Swenson and Frank Sinatra Jr., to list just a few, - all loved their GMC's and were delighted to see them back in working condition.

Work was steady and in 1985 Dennis realised that, even though there were no new GMC's being produced, the existing GMC owners still needed someone to be around in case they needed something done. He decided that it was time to open a dedicated GMC service & repair shop and created GMC-RV. To this day he remains it's owner and CEO, providing personalized customer service unmatched in the field.
